Well, I usually don't like to talk about it...But for most of my life I have had a headache. For seven days straight I have not had a headache or migraine headache. I feel like I just woke up from a coma. I feel fabulous! The secret is to get a doctor who cares. The Colts are not going to the Superbowl. Peyton Manning just couldn't get the team the last touchdown they needed. As I watched the game on TV, I never saw such sad losers. A note of sarcasm from me, I might need a tissue because a tear is forming in the corner of my eye. I just had to write a few lines about it ***Yawn*** my husband and his family LOVE football. Me, I couldn't tell you the first thing about it other than the players look like a bunch of beefcakes and the cheerleaders well I don't want to offend anyone. Although I probably just did, I hear football is like an institution or something right? OK. It's all meant in good fun. Here are a couple of pics from the game from today and football eyecandy.

2006

Well, Happy belated New Year. As I reflect on the past year, I think about the resolutions I made for last year and how I measured up. Ok let's go through them:

You do not have to say it, I am a PROCRASTINATOR. I have done better but there is always room for improvement. I am not a fast knitter( this is obvious) I am still working on the purse from Nov. And I have yet to sew beads on the poncho I knitted in Oct.(although it has not been cold enough to wear it) It is January and it was 80 freakin' degrees the other day.

Left picture is the purse sewn together. I still need to pick a fabric for the inside and sew it. Right picture is the strap.

Last year I said I was going to start what I finish. I tend to start a million things and never finish anything. I did better but...You know the drill....I actually did do better at this but because I procrastinate it takes me forever now to finish anything. I so frustrate myself!

Be healthier. This is a day to day struggle for me. There are so many things wrong I won't bore you with the details. Although it can be a contributing factor in why I procrastinate. Even when the doc say you need to exercise or you are going to have a stroke exercising still sucks!

The list could go on and on and on but I think I will stop myself here.

There are things are want to do, goals and project I want to achieve. But I also wish I could win the Lottery too! So, the only resolution for 2006 I will make is that I am not going to make any.

I just want to have the best year ever.

P.S. It needs a few beads for the decorative tie but it is complete. It will be the end of Nov. Before I can actually wear it though. It did turn cool this week but 69 degrees does not mean break out every sweater you own and wear it. If you did you would die of heat exhaustion by mid afternoon.
Okay. I started my next project it is a wrap from the Weekend Knitting book. It has great projects but the author's directions for her patterns are not always clear, but the designs are great. It has start out ok we will see if I get the instructions correct. While I am knitting I decide to catch the latest episode of Knitty Gritty on DIY. It is all about knitting with wire. Usually I learn something from each show but I was so bored with the guest and all the projects. I have hard enough time fighting with my circular needles so do you really think I want to learn to fuss with wire. Please....So has the self proclaimed crafty girl run out of ideas? Hmmmmm.

I will leave you with this fabu shot of Reagan. Went to Books-a-Million.com and ordered three journals Stitch'n Bitch a knitter's design journal, KNIT a personal handbook, and Yarn Girls knitting journal. The reason I ordered 3 is because the descriptions in the books don't always tell you everything you need to know, besides I could give the ones I don't use as gifts to other knitters. I was right as I inspected each book. I liked certain things but not everything in them I could use.

First, the stitch'n bitch journal is the best of the three but way too small. The book is mostly graph paper to inspire you to create. That's great but a 5x7 page doesn't cut it for me. I write big and looking at tiny squares just makes me frustrated. I did like the needle inventory page and the yarn stash page but the book is just too small. Next, the KNIT journal is totally useless. It is not much bigger than the stich'n bitch book and contains practically nothing but graph paper. Lastly, is the Yarn girls journal. To start off it is a good size has pocket folder inserts and is spiral bound. It also includes a section for knitting fundamentals (all 3 books have a knitting basics section), and a project listing section.

Eventhough, I was not totally impressed with any one book. I am going to keep the Yarn Girls Knitting Journal and use it for listing my completed projects. I may have to reorganize this book later into a binder of my own. The project page ask for swatches, pictures, yarn sleeves and samples. I have entered 8 projects and the book is already not laying flat. Not good. I will worry with it later. I did make a binder for myself I have a page for listing yarn needles & crochet hooks and listed yarn I have in my stash in alphabetical order with the yarn sleeve information. This book will be handy when I am out and need to know if I have that needle or how much of a single yarn do I have. So go get yourself organized.

I am on vacation this week (YEAH!) I just finished weaving in the ends to the front side of the purse I am making so now I can finish the poncho. You know weaving in the ends is so not fun. It's a lot like when you sew having to hand sew seams or do darning. Hate it. I guess that's why when my husband needs a button sewn on it will sit in my sewing room FOREVER. Anyway..... Get your needles....On your mark....Find your yarn.........Get KNITTING!!!

I can't believe it has been a month since my last post. Shame on me. No excuses but let me explain. I had a little medical drama that lasted a couple of weeks. I have migraine headaches that have plagued me since I was a little girl. Last week has been doctor #3 I've seen this year. Anyway.....getting the right doctor and the right medication will be the key. The last doc I've seen actually has a clue and is willing to investigate and help me get treatment( I actually had a doctor say "Well you look fine what's wrong with you!" He was a dumb butt. I did not go back to him). I can't wait to be pain free. Yeah!

On to better things, I have knitted a bit. I finished one side of the purse project and I'm on to the other side. I haven't knitted much else. I am going to take my last vacation days before the retail holiday rush begins so....I hope to finish that notorious wrap and start some XMAS gifts next weekend. To help myself get some ideas I kinda went book ordering crazy at Books a Million.COM. They make it so easy if your a discount member you get free shipping and you can get pretty much anything really quick. Love that! I've thumbed thru a few books and absolutely love Great Knitted Gifts by Andrea and Gayle Shackleton. I have a ton of books and usually like a couple patterns from each that I plan to knit but I just covet and want to knit every single item in this book. Everyone should check it out. I give it 5 stars. I am truly inspired. That's the key. OK. The Knitting Experience Book 3: Color by Sally Melville is a different story. She inspires me with her techniques. She is fearless and I have learned a lot from Book 1: Knitting and Book 2: Purling but chic is stuck in the 80's as far as style. That was absolutely the worst design era so far and I don't prefer to live it again. I think I'm going to check out Knit Picks and see if they have any yarn I can use for Great knitted Gifts projects. I'll let you know.

Wow, what a busy weekend this was. I'm glad it's over. The baby shower was Saturday and went off pretty much without a hitch. My sister's mother-in-law even attended. That was a good thing but the cousins tried to be on their best behavior but they just couldn't help themselves. They just couldn't stand it that I gave this baby shower. Oh well, maybe everyone can get along for the baby blessing in 2 weeks. We shall see.

On to other things, my computer just crashed Friday. It was old and I lost everything. I always made backup files of my pictures but I lost everything else. ADVISE: Always backup anything you care about. Don't forget and don't think it won't happen to you because it will. I learned my lesson. But I bought a fabulous new computer to replace my old one. It's fast, has lots of memory and lots of fun stuff to go with it. This will keep me busy for a while so knitting has been put on the back burning for a little while.

Oh, I almost forgot. Now I can get back to knitting the poncho. Maybe this weekend I can get most of it finished. I have the weekend off but I have the baby shower to prepare for on Saturday. I'll just have to see how things go. In the mean time, I made some progress on my purse. I am definitely not a fast knitter. Oh how I wish I had more time.

TRIVIA TIME!

Can anyone guess who this is?

I will give you the weekend to try and guess.

HINT: I was watching TV the other night and saw her and thought she looked familiar. My husband said she should you went to high school with her. Oh My God! He was right! She has done very well for herself. You go girl! Ok. She is from Jackson, MS and the show is on a cable channel. Have fun guessing.

Sleepy?

Reagan was so cute today I had to take a picture. I am making it bigger and will probably add more colors before it is all over with.

If you are considering ordering yarn on the internet you should visit http://www.yarnmarket.com/. I ordered more yarn to finish my poncho last nite and found they have great prices and great service. I made a booboo on the shipping address and called to get it corrected. I didn't realize it but they had already corrected it and called my home to tell me they fixed it and the order was on its way at 9am. That's fabulous. (See I don't always complain)
Another great thing they do is have a great database of yarn. They don't have all brands but if you want to know yarn info or needs specs on yarn to convert it, it is a great tool. "Will things EVER get back to normal(whatever that is)? I finally got the electricity restored after 5 days. Just to tell you how excited and relieved my subdivision was, we gave our power trucks a parade. No lie. Everyone came out of their homes to cheer them on as they left. You can betcha that my AC will be on 50 degrees tonight!!! Well, here are the pictures I took of my neck of the woods. They are not as dramatic as what you have seen on TV. But if you travel my town there are a trees in the middle of the roads, tangled up in power lines, and/or are in or own someone's roof everywhere you go. No one was ignored by this hurricane.

I hope to get back to normal blogging about knitting next week.

Until then......STAY TUNED.

P.S. I will put the whining aside for this unfortunate event.

I know the entire country have seen the pictures. The devastation is so immense that I can't describe all of the hardships we will have to face here in MS and LA. My family and I weathered the storm but surviving is a struggle(nothing compares to the coast or New Orleans) but here in Jackson and the suburbs we don't have electricity and cannot find gasoline and have no phone that includes cell phones. It will be at least a week before we have power, when that is restored I will post pictures that I have been able to take.

If anyone reads this PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pray for the people left in New Orleans that they can get to safety and that the coasts doesn't have more death than they have already reported.

God Bless,
Melissa

Will I ever get to relax?

After I came back from my trip to Rainbow Foods, I thought I would start a new healthy regimen. I recently stopped smoking( it's been 4 months) and lost 55 pounds last year. Great. I was already eating healthy by eating no fast food, ate fruit when I was hungry, ate more veggies, and cut back on red meat. So this week I decided to take it a step further.....I would stop drinking diet coke and drink more water and drink tea instead. Guess what....I get sick! I have been so miserable. My throat is sore, my sinuses hurt(actually my face feels like it is going to pop), and I can't breathe. That was Thursday. I started an antibiotic and actually do feel better today. I hope I am over this by Monday.

I was watching the news and here comes another hurricane. I feel so sorry for all those people in Florida. My prayers are with you guys. But here it comes our way in LA and MS. They are evacuating New Orleans and the MS coast. All those people (over a half million people) are coming this way. It makes Jackson a very busy place. Monday will be hectic at the store. I will keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't do much damage.

I haven't done any knitting. I organized my patterns that I have been printing from the internet but thats about it. I do love a few sights if you are interested in patterns visit: http://magknits.com/
http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/index.html
http://straw.com/
http://www.mangomoonyarns.com/Patterns.html
http://www.sheepinthecity.prettyposies.com/archives/000079.html
There are a ton more places to go but these are some of my favorites.
Oh, here is another place to go http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/sockslegwarmers.htm
I've been thinking I want to do this pattern but I don't have any double pointed needles. Oh the DRAMA in my life is just hysterical. At the beginning of the week I was so sure I could get a great deal of knitting done. Boy was I wrong.

To start the week off, I had a migrane headache that lasted for a couple of days. I was tired from that and work, but then my husband decided to revolt on cleaning up the house. He sure can cook a good meal but he is the biggest mess maker( I was so pissed!) I have to clean up his crap and this. Not anymore I said. Then he falls walking out the back door. My precious poodle (that cannot see very well) flew out the back door and because he wasn't paying attention fell and almost broke his foot. Stupid, Stupid Stupid. He finally went to the doctor after a day and a half (only went because his boss made him go) . Men have no sense!
Anyway, the doc said he has a very bad sprain and a chipped bone fragment. Just what I need.
(Did I mention He hobbles around because he won't use a crutch.) Marbles for brains.

Ok...so It is Friday by now and finally get a day off and realize I have to finish the baby shower invitations. Easy, right. Wrong. I had a little printer drama but finally got the thing to work.

TIP: Order them don't do it yourself.

Great. I think everything is fine. I am now informed that my brother in laws mother won't come to the shower. ARGH! Old southern women are so stupid and petty. I love my sister...we have a great relationship.....she is my best friend. So I absolutely thought nothing of having a freakin' shower for her. But apparently I bucked somekind of tradition. I thought we lived in the new millennium the year 2005 not 1850. The brother in laws cousin was going to throw her a shower but is now also miffed and won't give her one now. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

So I decide I need to get away from all this chaos...I need to have some inner peace.

AAAAHHHH!!!!! Granola!!!!!

Yes that's right I grab the inner hippie in me and go to Rainbow Foods. They are an all natural, Organic type store. I just love this place! Anyway, I get some herbal tea, some fruit and a couple other natural things............Then, Come home to a messy house, loving animals, and my redneck husband.

HOME SWEET HOME

Again

I started the poncho over. In the mean time until I get caught back up, let me introduce my other pet.

This is Alexandra. She is my true love. She has been with me for 15 years. She is still a spunky little poodle but is getting elderly in her old age. She has cataracts, almost all her teeth are gone, doesn't hear well( neither do I) and has a touch of arthritis. Despite all of that She rules the house (the cats do what she says). Anyway, the vet says keep her comfy and she will be around maybe till she's 21. I just looked around the room and all my animals are asleep. Reagan is snoring. Time to go. NITY NITE!

A Look-See

These are a few pic's of my past knitting projects and my sewing room.
These are the cutest bootees.
This closet if full of fabric. I have been shopping for the last 12 hours!
Anyone that knows me, knows this is not unusual. I love to shop.

My sister was off today and so we rounded up my mother and went on a spree all over Jackson. First, we went shopping for baby furniture. My sister is due the first week of November. So we thought we would just look and get prices and compare. In Mississippi whatever it is you might need, want, or desire there is usually only one place that can service your needs. Like shopping for baby stuff. Your choice is The Playpen, or uhh... Walmart. Anyway, we fell in love with a 3 in 1 bed and the matching changing table. My mother and I just went banana's. Bought the furniture, the bedding set, sheets, wrapping paper...ect. We spent 3 hours there.

Second, we went to Knit Wits. The only place you can get high quality yarn around here other than Michael's or Walmart. Well, because it is owned by a bunch of women who run the business for fun, they are not there during business hours. They were closed at 3:00 pm, supposed to be open till 4:00 pm on Friday.

QUESTION: Does anyone in Mississippi knit besides me and the women who run Knit Wit's?

I wish I could just say I want to play for the rest of the day at my retail job (I am a manger for a national retail company) lets put a note on the door, lock it and leave. I think I would lose my job.
Nether the less I will do my yarn and book shopping online from now on.
This trip took about 10 minutes.

Third, we went to Sam's. Love this place. Nothing but a big warehouse full of stuff to purchase. Okay, I will just say I can't possibly tell you everything I bought(we would be here till tomorrow) but my best purchase was my new CAMERA. I can't wait to try it out. It will absolutely put my old digital camera to shame. We spent 3 1/2 hours Sam's. By this time it is after 6:pm. My husband calls on the cell and says "Where are you, when are you coming home and what's for dinner?" I reply "At Sam's, don't know, and why don't you eat a sandwich." My husband has to work tomorrow and new he wouldn't want to be out late. I just didn't know when we would be home. We shop a little more and now it is time to go to the check out. The only thing I hate to do is this task... I have to pick up all this stuff from 3 over flowing carts, put it on the counter for the cashier, pick it up to put it back in the buggy, load it in mom's car, unload my stuff into my car, take it home and take it inside. ZZZZZ .....If you are still with me, just a reminder this blog is called Spoiled Rotten. I did not break a nail but will probably have to go to the chiropractor on Monday. It is 7:00 pm by now.

Fourth, we decide we are hungry. Mexican it is. But before we go I just remembered I have to prepare a dish for work the next day. I just spent over $1000.00 at Sam's and did not get one single ingredient for my dish. What a bummer. Is now 8:45 pm.

Fifth, we go to Walmart. A shopper's paradise. We shop around and I get my stuff for Cheesy Baked Ziti (a recipe from my Southern Living Magazine). It is now MIDNIGHT!!! I am exhausted.

Get back home and I decide that I need to plan a baby shower for my sister. GASP!!! (That was Miss Manner's in the background) I know that a family member is not supposed to throw the baby shower, but I am my sister's best friend and by God if I want to throw her a freakin' shower I will.

***Phrase of the week "I do what I want!!!"***

YAWN
Moral, There isn't one. Just a lot of rants and a little rave. I will get back to knitting tomorrow. I started knitting the poncho yesterday. It will be cute as pie if I can keep the correct gauge. I will test out my new camera and send some pictures over the weekend.

HUGS AND KISSES

Fresh Start

Hello!

I just have to say I absolutely love blogger.com. For reasons I prefer not to get into ( if you are curious visit my former journal @ http://journals.aol.com/mspoodle1/LeBrouhaha/. The last entry).

I think I will copy the first entry I made in Le Brouhaha. It pretty much sums up how it all started.

Where do I begin?

I really don't know, but here I go. Being creative is a passion for me. I absolutely love the process of learning something new(although it drives my husband crazy). It all began when I was very young with sewing baby doll clothes. By the age of 12 I could crochet, needlepoint, and crossstich anything. By the end of high school if I wanted a trendy outfit, I made it. I continued to be crafty through college. If there was one thing in my life I could change this would be it. Why I majored in accounting I will never know. Always, always always follow your dream. Anyway, since graduating almost 12 years ago, my interest have broadened a bit to design and quilting. Confession.... I am a bad quilter(I'll elaborate later). I also love to decorate. There is not one piece of furniture in my house that has a permanent place. NOTE: This will drive any man insane. After 11 years of marriage he still doesn't understand. Finally, last year I picked up a new skill. I learned to knit. It really is a lot of fun.
I am going to try to show what I can do. ***Let's hope my camera works***
